Similar hobbies for model railroading fans

admin | | Monday, May 30th, 2011

Fans of model railroading are a unique breed. They have the ability to devote a large portion of time creating their routes, choosing their engines and laying track. This attention to detail is what helps them branch out to other hobbies pretty easily. Let’s take a look at a couple things that a model railroading fan might enjoy.

Building Miniatures

Most people associate miniatures with RPG pen and paper games but really, building miniatures can actually go hand in hand with model railroading. You can use wood, plaster or metal to create people, animals and creatures that can populate a model city or even be used in various types of games. Many model railroaders will begin building small items such as trees and fences then gradually move up to larger endeavors like barns, houses, and even entire towns. These miniatures can be used for exciting scenes or be incorporated into your railroad setup.

RC Aircraft

RC aircraft flying may not seem like a hobby a model railroader would enjoy because there isn’t quite the same level of detail put into it. This changes when you buy a RC airplane kit that you have to build yourself. Putting all the pieces together then painting your craft is a very rewarding experience when your creation first takes flight. There are a lot of spectacular tricks you can perform with an RC airplane that could take months to learn. Loops, rolls and specific types of turn are greatly impacted by the Earth’s gravity and it’s a complicated process that takes a lot of practice.

If you’re into model railroading or just a fan, give one of these other hobbies a shot and you won’t be disappointed. You could find something to supplement your existing hobby or discover that deep down you were really looking for something else to do all along.Keep looking, there’s more: Road Champs Ho Scale Buses are Hard to Find
